Sometimes One Need’s to Take a Step Back

When I first joined Medium, I read different articles about the importance of writing on a consistent basis. While I definitely believe aiming to write everyday is ideal in order to improve and get more of our content out there, sometimes life happens to get in the way.

I wrote a couple weeks or so ago about considering scheduling myself. Still am considering doing so. One of my key weakness is a lack of concentration and focus. It is real easy for me to get pulled away from writing into something else that needs attention, or what I think needs attention. Working a 9–5 job, it’s sometimes difficult to put the effort, even though I desire to, into writing everyday, or even every other day.

This is my first piece in over a week. Last week I needed to take a step back. A breather if you will from reading and writing on Medium. I used some of that time to try to go to sleep earlier. I played some my guitar. I journaled, and actually watched some television. For sometime now I’ve been juggling a lot on my plate, including Medium, and just felt worn out. Any ideas in my mind to write fizzled, and that’s usually a sign to me a short break is in order.

While it is important to strive for our goals, and to aim for consistency with our writing habits, sometimes it’s nice to take a step back. To put either relax your mind, or put the focus on something else for a bit. You may find your brain feels recharged, and being able to let your words out comes a tad more easy.
